1897 was too early for this purchase to have come from Pope. In 1897 Cresent was still being made by Western Wheel Works of Chicago. Pope didn't own Crescent til the consortium years. I'll look up a reference for you.

The Monark/Monarch is unclear to me. I understand that Pope had sold the Monarch name to another company but did they immediately change it to Monark or was this yet an other Company?

Apologies if this Crescent company history is straying toward off topic.
