The "stayer" design does in fact have a purpose and the photo is not incorrect. the reason for the "reverse rake" which neccessitates a smaller wheel is this. If and when the front wheel happens to touch the roller on the durney(sp?) during a race while topping 45 mph on the track the wheel will tend to straighten itself as opposed to turn to the side; resulting in the bike and rider ending up being slung into the rafters or at least into orbit over the fence. Not something one wants to happen with such high speeds and several other riders and monster motorcycles on the boards at the same time, I assure you! Hope that answers your question.
