Subject: [CR]Columbus tubes and Cinelli Super Corsa

Hi All,

Can anyone tell me exactly when Columbus introduced the helical reinforcing ribs in the steerer tubes of its tube sets? I was surprised to find them in the steerer of my allegedly 1955 Cinelli Super Corsa. This Super Corsa is unusual in that it is fitted with a left hand Campag rear dropout on the right side (the Campag logo is on the inside). Presumably this was because the frame was intended for use with a Simplex rear mech and it saved having to cut the hanger off a right dropout which was presumably more expensive than a second left one!

I have noticed that on all the early Super Corsas that I have seen with Campag rear dropouts the dropouts differ from the usual 1010 dropouts in that the rear edges are much more squared off. It appears that this change of shape was not achieved by simply filing standard 1010 dropouts as there is still too much metal left for that. Did Campag make dropouts specially for Cinelli?
