Are you saying cables stretch while the bike is just sitting there? I'd have to see some test data, since it contradicts what I think I learned in school. (Pardon me if you were kidding and your clues were too subtle for me)

There is a phenomenon called "creep", but I think it only happens at high temperatures like in rocket cones.

Do steel buildings get shorter over time?
