Sorry guys...there is an orange Peugeot that parks down the road from me every day. Looks like the same orange. I'll take a closer look to see if it has any of the mystery bike details.

snip.... Also, I have never seen a Peugeot in that orange color, but Gitane did come in orange. Gitane also used more non-French equipment and could have had a Campy style cable guide. If it is a Peugeot, it has been repainted and the cable guide added. More likely, as Duane guessed, it is a 70's Gitane Tour de France with a Peugeot decal. A TdF should have had a half-chromed front fork. Perhaps the fork has been replaced or painted over. Another possibility is that it is a "club racer" with 531 main tubes only. There was an almost universal practice among French manufacturers in the 70's of putting half-chromed fork and stays on full 531 "pro" models, half-chromed stays but painted forks on "club racers". I think the Gitane club racer was called the Interclub. The good news is this frame is much better than a UO-8, though probably not a Peugeot.
