I remember back in the late 80's when I was collecting "Classic/Vintage" Macgregor persimmon head golf woods;I was dumfounded by the escalation of prices caused by Japanese collectors. The rate for equipment I was buying here was being bought by Japanese collectors at a rate 6 times what I was accustomed to paying. In Japan that was considered FAIR MARKET VALUE. When you took into account that it was not unusual to pay $1,000,000. for membership in a country club;those were probably bargain prices for the same item in their market. I know this is not about bicycles but it does relate to "collecting vintage items" in general. Nick Zatezalo Atlanta,Georgia

How about these apples... many on this list think the Juyrecord 60 derailleur ($1,635) went for _way_ more than it was "worth".

I'm of the opinion that in Japan it went for _less_ than it was "worth."
