The 1950s Simplex skewers had metal knobs and did not use rubber covers, as pictured in my auction. http://ebay.com/<blah>
    Sometime in the 1960s, Simplex changed to plastic/metal 3-piece knobs and rubber covered levers, as can be found on Peugeot PX10s. These rubber covers often either fell off or were taken off by racers to save weight. My guess is that the rubber covers were introduced at the same time as the plastic knobs.
