It is a good idea to always run an antivirus program, Garth. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I opened your message despite Norton Anti-Virus running. When I tried to open the message, Norton intercepted the command and warned that email attachments can contain viruses, then gave me the options of saving the file, opening it, or canceling. Despite the recent publicity about this virus, I foolishly opened it, as I was in a hurry and didn't take time to think. BTW, if anyone else became infected, you can go to the Symantec web site (the maker of Norton Antivirus) at http://www.symantec.com. They have an alert about this virus with information about it and a free download of a program to eliminate it. I apologize to anyone who had trouble because of the messages the virus sent from my machine after I opened Garth's message. This virus is particularly diabolical in that it picks names from your mailing list and past messages from your inbox or sent box, and makes the infected email look like a reply from someone you know to a legitimate message you recognize.

Regards,

Jerry Moos

I am ashamed to say that I have been running my computer without virus protection for the past 3 years. By the way, you can't just say that you will not open any attachments that have an underline in the address, because the email that gave it to me did not have this give-away feature. My email attachment (that I opened) had in the title (0 bytes), but I was silly enough to open it anyway, because it came from someone I know.

I ran FSAV virus program (downloaded) and then Norton virus scan, and I probably removed two different versions of the Badtrans.B virus. On good advice, I will be running McAfee Virus scan from now on (19.99 after rebate).

Please don't open any emails from me (Garth Libre) dated before December 3rd. I want to be sure that I wont be causing any further problems for list members.

This very bad virus records all your key strokes, requiring you to change all your passwords to prevent being robbed blind. Please take all possible precautions to avoid being the next victim. Sorry to have hurt my friends, I am Garth Libre in a saddened South Florida without George Harrison.
