Eric, it might also be the act of an over zealous prep man in the factory "falling asleep at the reamer". One other note, I have two identical, NOS 26.6 steel Simplex seatposts in my stash. When a caliper is put to both, one measures 26.58 and the other 27.00! To quote a line from "Chariots of Fire", "They're a peculiar lot, the frogs".
