I was out looking for a new bike shop to wrench at this afternoon, and since I was in Chapel Hill I dropped in to visit the local Performance Bike Shop (a place I had not entered recently). There I found, in the side room for discontinued and returned marked-down merchandise (only place I shop at Performance these days) a couple of items that might be of interest to the group:
Slotted Cleats - these are black hard plastic cleats for toe-clip pedals. They have two bolt hole slots, each about 3/4" long with the forward one going heel-toe and the rear one going sideways. They come with 6 hex-key bolts and washers and the correct hex wrench in the ziplock bag with each pair of cleats. The bag is marked "Discontinued Product" and the Performance part number seems to be 5896 00-5896, maybe. They are 40% off their $4.99 price, which means they sell for $3.00 + NC sales tax (0.18 or so). If you would like me to get you some pairs, add Priority Mail Pouch postage and send me a request. They have lots, but I am pretty sure they are not available mail-order.
Panaracer 27"x1" Pasela kevlar/wire-bead tires. Now, I am pretty sure Sheldon Brown and crew still stock these, but it is a bad sign that Performance is blowing out their remaining stock on these tires at $9 each. This is for information to the group only - I won't get these for you since I believe they are available from group members.
