Subject: [CR]Masi Hot Rod Questions

Hi Gang,

I finally picked up the Masi 3V frame that Brian Baylis had painted for me from a friend in up-state New York. Stunning work, Brian! Thanks!

I was in New York State to participate in a Randonneur "Fleche" - a team of 4 of us rode 480km (300 miles) in a 24 hour period. I rode my Olmo with Gran Sport triple group, while friend Alan rode his lovely Zunau. The other two rode a touring Trek and a Merlin titanium. But that's another story...

What I am interested in posting to our list are questions regarding the mix and match intentions I have for the Masi.

It is my desire to use this bike for our attack on the Raid Pyrenees event in September - 750km from Atlantic to the Med through the Pyrenees and including every pass ever used on the Tour. This is to be completed within 100 hours to qualify for an award.

So I would like to equip the bike mostly with period C-Record, including lovely high flange C-record wheels.

From there I intend to fit a Racing Triple crank and derailleurs to help this old fart to conquer the mountains. I would also like to fit a 7 speed freewheel to what normally would be a 6-speed hub, and use a Synchro down tube indexed shifter.

Will this combo work? What do I have to watch for regarding specific parts to use or avoid? Any other advice?

Thanks,

Larry Strung
