I think a pause in the Confente saga is good also, and like Bob Reid, I am a bit puzzled by all the attention paid Mario. Certainly he was a master craftsman, but so were others who have received less attention. I think the interest is generated by the combination of his untimely death, the fact that a California Masi was featured in "Breaking Away", the best known American cycling film ever, and most of all the fact that so many bike builders who would later become prominent were personally connected to the saga in some way. Of course these were mostly West Coast builders, East Coast builders being more influenced directly by Europe, often UK. On the other hand, one can also wonder why many people consider Hetchins "THE" classic British bike, when it would seem many other British marques should hold equal interest.
