I think maybe Phil Brown already touched on this but Quad Butting meant 4 "distinct" wall thicknesses, three of which occur at one end of the tubing! Imagine, if you will, a double butted tube with an even thicker additional butt at one end (triple butted thus far) then an even thicker butt beyond that, on the same end! If & what the logic or true function of this was is unclear but it sounded cool at the time..
