Yes, a suspension failure on the fastest part of the circut-very similar to the crash that killed Patrick Depaillier in the same spot about 15 years later. Loti (approved plural of Louts) came apart frequently in those days-the wobbly wheels and suspension parts being the main offenders, although the "queer box" in the 16 was a close third. Remember that Chapman's motto in those days was, "Simplify and add lightness." CR content: check those lightweight parts. Phil Brown
