I haven't commuted by bike regularly since the mid '70's, but then it was on a beautiful black and chrome Woodrup Criterium bike, long pointed chrome lugs, all campy with Fiamme yellow lable rims and the orange Vittoria? dry weather silk sewups. Nothin' like riding on Silk! The bike had what I now feel as silly geometry with a 75 degree head angle, almost no fork rake and an impossibly short wheelbase, 38-1/2" for a 63 cm frame c-t. I really enjoyed cruising down St. Paul Street to the inner harbor of Baltimore in the middle lane drafting cars and passing buses at 30 mph and catching every light green. It was kind of an out of this world experience in the dead of winter at about 5 degrees and a mild tailwind. The ride out in the evening wasn't nearly so nice with the tightly knotted cars, an uphill grind, getting gassed by the buses and almost always a headwind. It was about a 10 and a half mile each way commute.
