Dave,

I'm sure I read it here but the best tip I've had is to place a flat piece of metal across the threaded hole in the stem and screw the bolt against that. That should open the stem out nicely but watch you don't overdo it.

Cheers, Bruce

Hey Folks-
I know this may have been discussed to death in the past, but I am in a jam and need that info again. I have an early 70s 3TTT Bar and Stem that are two separate items. How do I get the stem on the bar without scratching the living daylights out of the bar. Do I use 30w oil, 30w saliva, car jack or what? Any and all help is sincerely appreciated.
