I have or have had at some time, several different types of Zeus cranksets. First, I think the 2001 in the ebay ad is a mistake...I never heard of 2001. I also can verify that just about every different Zeus crankset which passed through my paws, about 6 now, were all different in some way and only one was milled the entire way through. The milled entirely was far less polished than the others and also cracked in several places. I never used it and sold it to a Japanese gentleman who was going to use it as a wall piece only. I have a zeus cyclocross crank as well which the only difference is it has guide rings with spacers, basically it is no different than a standard zeus crank. The Zeus 2000 crank that is on my Razesa has one long milled area. The crankset on my Zeus which is the one I purchased as a "cylco" cross crankset has three seperate milled out areas which each has two different variations of depth to the millings. So I would say they are all unique from my experience and I would also love to know if any is specific to the year made.

I have a few spare zeus parts if anyone is interested. 47t chainring NOS $20 14-21 zeus alloy 6 speed. excellent shape. $90

>>>>>Some questions have come up on the Zeus 2000 crankset I have up for auction on eBay

My understanding is that the slots that went all the way through the crank arms were just done on the very first versions (1977?) and were quickly changed to the slots that only went part way through the arms. My quess would be because there was a breakage problem with these highly stressed parts.

Anyone have info or recollections on these cranks? Chuck Schmidt<<<<<

Chuck and all -

I don't have any definitive confirmation, but that is my recollection as well. I thought the fully milled versions were quite rare because they were produced for such a short time. I was just having a related conversation with a (possibly lurking) list member along this same vein. There is currently another Zeus crankset listed on eBay by cyclo24, and an 86 Trek also just sold with one.

The crankset listed is one of the partially milled versions and is identified as being part of the Zeus 2001 series. Is that accurate and could the change have been marketed as 2001? I thought that the partially milled versions were also the 2000 series. Is there a complete 2001 series? I know the 2000 series even included drop-outs (I have a set.) How extensive was the 2000 series of components? Can anyone verify the time frame?

Nothing like answering a question with a bunch more questions, eh?
