Subject: [CR]Re: Weinmanns with bronze bushings, Some Dates

I found a reference in an old Wheel Goods catalog on early Weinmann centerpulls. The catalog says that the engraved "Vaniqueur 999" brakes were in production until September 1964. They changed the spring and mounting plates during that time. I have over-hauled both the 1st and 2nd generation Weinmann's and have always found brass bushings underneath. Conversely, I have always found plastic bushings in those with stickers--post-1964.

1st Type: Used until December 1962, but beginning date NOT listed. Used the nice old engraved arms. Up until '62, Weinman used only 1 spring connected to both pivots. The pivot shims were threaded into the mounting plates with a bolt.

2nd TYPE: From December 1962 thru September 1964 the engraved arms were the same as 1st generation, but the calipers used 2 separate springs--1 on each pivot bolt. The pivot shims were built into the mounting plate, similar to cantilever braze-ons.

3rd TYPE: Caliper arms use stickers instead of engraving and take plastic bushings.
