Well, I never had any trouble at all with these rims and normal wire-bead tires. It is only with kevlar-bead folding tires that I had blow-offs at high pressure. It is nice to carry a folding tire for a spare on a tandem, though. I have a few 27" folding tires for use with my Raleigh Competition and Santana Elan tandem. Unfortunately, my favorite wheelset for the tandem is an old Phil Wood freewheel hub set with Weinmann Concave 27" rims - I no longer use the kevlar-bead folding tires on them. The wire-bead tires work fine, even the really narrow Pasela 1 inch I use on the front.

If only I could get my wife Valinda to ride with me on it...
