Surprised someone has'nt mentioned the popular Major Taylor chrome steel handlebar stems used by clubmen in the 1950's. Although very heavy and clumsy to look at they served their purpose for riders whom only owned one bike been able to adjust riding position required for racing on road and track events. Very useful to be able beg or borrow a stem for a newly required frame by trying to get the exact size prior to purchasing a new one
