Then there's "extreme axle nuts," in a neighborhood near the first bike store I worked in ca. 1971 a few of the badder kids had figured out that the threads in an Ashtabula stem wedge were the same as the on their Sting Rays' front axles--they were threading stem wedges on and sharpening them with files. These punks were doing Ben-Hur numbers on more affluent kids with
new bikes.
