Not sure I want to subject the CR list to this.... Actually, why not?

Last spring/summer the question was posed, "which frame would you buy and why - Masi or Waterford?" This is the short form. Question actually evloved over couple of posts.

This was an attempt to stimulate a conversation. The question was posed in a way so as not to lead an answer. The idea was to get people to air their opinions so that all could see the range of values that operate in each of us.

What looked like a two dimensional question actually became quite complex with some of the things you pointed out being aired.

A year later we still have the issues - the stuff I was trying to remind people of in my post two days ago. e.g. Dale thinks the name on the frame is important - maybe the most important attribute (dont want to put words in his mouth). Others will think ride is or execution of details is most important.

I always chase the physical reality first but I recognize the perfectly executed, most exquisite riding frame is less desireable if it has no name, no history, no "lineage". That was startling to realize.

Your separation of "riders" and "collectors" is but another way to slice the pie. Not right or wrong just another way.

The above question, from last summer, I think used the term "which would you buy" - that was designed to force the issue of ones true preference. I can intellectually recognize each of the ways to value things. I can agree with them or disagree. But when I buy I make a decision that speaks to my own set of preferences at a point in time.

There is a certain amount of art in a bicycle. There is a certain amount of art in our decisions and values. Airing them reveals the possibilities so one can evolve their own.
