Mervyn, the bikes owner is a very good friend of mine. The hubs are
early Harden sealed (cartridge) bearing models. Later hubs had holes in
the flanges. The undrilled ones are commonly referred to in the UK as
Bacon Slicers as they look like a small version of the round blade in a,
guess what - a bacon slicer! Harden hubs are very sought after in the UK
and are very practical to use as the bearing races are a standard
imperial size that is still easily available. I run a large flange pair
on my 1952 Rotrax Super Club.
