The SR BBs do indeed use the 3/16" balls, and therefore require a specific cup. It required cup is the aluminum cup with steel insert race that you referred to. One thing to note is that the early C-record cups were the same as the SR cups, but later on the C-rec spindle and cups were changed to take 7/32" balls. This means that not all aluminum Campy cups are compatible with SR. I don't know if there is any way to distinguish the 3/16" abd 7/32" aluminum cups, but if you look at them sids by side, they are obviously different. I suppose if you assemble your SR BB with the incorrect 7/32" cups the adjustable cup will screw in too far because it is intended to give clearance for a larger ball.

How can I distinguish the BB cups of the early Super Record BB with the titanium spindle from the common ones for steel spindles? From the catalogues I've learned that the Ti version uses 3/16" balls while the common ones use 1/4" balls. But is there also a difference between the cups? I ask because I found a Ti spindle (68-SS-120) at a local bike shop in a cupboard full of NOS and used old Campagnolo BB parts. I also found some cups made of aluminium with inlayed steel bearing surfaces. Can they be the SR cups for the Ti spindle? If anybody is interested: One of the two Portacatena chainholders I also found, I've put on eBay.

thanks, Dirk

BTW: Because I'm new to the list let me intruduce myself: I'm living in Germany near Heidelberg. I bought my first leightweight in 1987 a Faggin I completed with Croce d'Aune parts over the years. Since then I bought several classic steel frames (63cm) and nearly all of old Campagnolo stuff I've stumbled over. My current "project" is a 1979 Gios Super Record I recently got in untouched

original condition (Anybody interested in the story?). You can see it at http://home.t-online.de/home/dirk.feeken/gios.html Oh, and I'm married to a wife (hers: Cinelli Super Corsa) who allowed me to mount the Gios to the living room wall! Now your envious, right?
