Peugeot Fans:

PRESTIGE=PY10E:

I have a Peugeot bike brochure from 1977 which refers to the PY10E as the Prestige.

The brochure has a poster of Thevenet on the front, in his Cycles-Peugeot/Esso Jersey. He's riding a PY10. The back of the brochure shows pictures of production bikes ranging from the lowly UG45CX to the PX10LE, and also a spec table including the PY10E.

In the "fine print" at the bottom are these words:

Each Professional PY10E is built according to individual customer specifications regarding frame size and component requirements. For information about placing an order for the PY10E "Prestige", contact your Authorized Peugeot Bicycle Dealer.

I rest my case!

TWO VERSIONS:

Note that the 1977 PY10 was different from the 1975 PY10 -- the 1975 bike had Nervex lugs while the 1977 bike has head lugs like a Masi (with the extra reinforcing flanges where the headset seats -- also used on the subsequent Peugeot "Super Competition" model).

Also noted: a Tour photo shows that at least one of Thevenet's 1975 bikes was equiped with the Stronglight 105 crank (not drilled), gold Mafacs and gold Simplex derailleurs, and Cinelli Giro bars and 1/A stem -- whereas in the 1977 photo on the brochure, the bike has a drilled 105BIS crank, all silver components, and Cinelli bars&stem (spec table lists Phillipe polished bars & stem though -- of course!).
