This type of1958 first Campy crankset was discussed in last January, when NOS with high flange B/B set disappeared from ebay when they were over 1400.00.

The unit I remeber did not have Campy witing on the caps, and no hole.

Some one mentioned that they only had one year 58 to 59, they Campy dropped caps, but the groove (not screw thread) for "snap" on caps were there till newer "fat" and "wider" crankarm without raised hole came out in 60 to 61.

There was a discussion of "raised hole" PISTA unit a few month ago also, the unit was wider arms and no gap under the head-spider arms, and had raised B/B shaft hole, beside pedal hole. So, I posted list, it (PISTA) raise hole might have last a bit longer than road unit, because of necessity for sprint/heavy duty, using 1/8" chain and chainring. So, it could be made till 63 to 64?? I also remember some track racer used 151 BCD rings in even early 70's while road unit changed to 144 BCD in 67-68.

1958 to 1960 the first generation did not have the raised B/B shaft hole, and crankarm is a lot narrower; ex-member of C-R gave me measurement; at 170mm crank set comparison (at mid point of crankarm); first generation=19.5mm, 80's N.R=23.5mm.

Alos, the first generation did not have anodized finish, therefore; with its age many survivors have a lot of oxidation(dark) spots!

In my opinion, those unitis are only good for Campy collector to decorate his livingroom wall!
