Interesting. As Scott Smith and I were out climbing straight up Box Canyon above Simi Valley today--and I do mean straight up, that is one mofo hill.. although the ride down the other side was entertaining, I must say... ;> (really nice day and ride, thanks Scott!) I was mulling over this very thing. Tires make a huge difference. It seems to me to be nearly impossible to usefully compare bicycles without accounting for tire differences (the hell with tubing...the tires will make a bigger difference by far, assuming reasonably good frame design, of whatever flavor, as has been discussed...)

But, what I want to know, Wes, is, what tires were they that killed the ride? Shall we have a little informal guessing pool? I'm going to cheat and guess two: they were either Contis or Vittorias, right?
