John, I guess that's what I'm curious about... When he arrived at Proteus he was already an accomplished builder, although totally unknown in the U.S. So I was wondering if he built under his own name in Japan or if he was "forced" to build frames which were identified with some "master builder". No one at Proteus seemed to know, since he really did simply arrive at their threshhold one day as if he had dropped from the sky! But I think you'd have to consider any the bikes he built in this country to be American.
