Subject: [CR]Paratrooper Bikes

When I was working in bike shops in NYC in the early 70's a gentleman came in with what he called a paratrooper bike. This was, apparently a military issue bike that was used in WWII by paratroopers being dropped behind enemy lines in France. The troops were provided with clothing to allow them to blend in with the locals. The bike broke down into two pieces and was assembled upon landing. I remember thinking the bike was very cool. The head mechanic in the shop did not want to work on it. Said all the parts were non-standard, and he didn't have time to mess with it. The customer left and never returned. Are these bike common? Who built them? Any pictures floating around? What a cool vintage bike one of these would be to own.
