that's the advert, (tho' in an earlier issue...), that got me hooked!!!!!!!!!!!! i had already had a couple o' 10 speeds and that ad drew me in. as a teen, i showed it to my mom daily-told her, "14 World Championships...**, how can i NOT get one just like it???"

her reply: "It's JUST an ad! It doesn't say anything about what the championship won was...it could be the World Championship of the color 'blue', so DON'T be sucked in..."(she said something else. it was the era of the book, "A Nation of Sheep". 'hope you catch that drift).

a month later i was off to tommy avenia's with $175 for a Frejus Tour de France, my first <REAL> bicycle.

**brad may have omitted this tag-line from the ad text in his earlier post. it was in banner form across the ad's top, i think. e-RICHIE humble beginnings... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here's some Frejus info from an ad in a recently purchased June '70 issue of BICYCLING!:
