I found, almost in the middle of nowhere, a Campagnolo brake friction washer.
It was winter of 1976-77, an off-season hike near La Honda. CA, accompanied by a former Olympian. We took a trail to its end, then veered across an open field.
Like finding a needle in a haystack, spotting that special serrated piece, part # 2015, I took as an good omen.
It remains a mystery how it got there. Did someone like Jobst Brandt, Tom Ritchey or Hugh Enochs pass there before us? Did it fall out of our pockets?
Even though it was precious, I was never into wearing it.
