Ken,

All of my information was taken from the vintage trek web site...and a little from memory. Your serial number looks to be a 1981 model. Unfortunately, the 1981 catalog does not show frame colors. Based on frame material and dropout information in the 1981 catalog, your frame would seem to be one of the following.

The 710 frame was Reynolds 531 throughout with Shimano SF forged with eyelets drop outs. No BB specified. No colors specified. The 750 frame which was Reynolds 531 throughout with Shimano UF semi-vertical drop outs. No BB specified. No colors specified.

Now, if you look in the 1982 catalog, you see two things.

The 710 frame is still available with the same drop outs. It is shown to be available in a pewter frame ("grey metalic")with light blue pannels (along seat tube AND head tube). Specifies bb to be Nikko.

The 750 frame is still available, though shown with Campagnolo 1010B drop outs. This frame was available ONLY in white with red panels (along seat tube, head tube, and down tube). Specifies bb to be NR with 757 model (which uses the 750 frame).

Further... None of the 1981 bikes specify Campagnolo components. Of course, this does not mean much. The original buyer could have had the frame built any way he/she wanted.

The 1982 catalog shows the 750 frame (757 model) with Campy SR/NR components...NR BB.

So, you might be able to fit your frame into one of these buckets. My guess is that it is a 1981 710 frame and that someone built it up with Campagnolo components. I know when I bought one of my Treks, I started with a 710 frame and swapped out all components on another model. Dealers were more willing (at least in Atlanta) to do things like that back then. Take a close look at the two mentioned catalogs and you will probably figure it out. You can download / view them at http://www.vintage-trek.com

Also, all rims shown are Regida Alloy 700c.

Thanks again, Jonathan Russell Atlanta, GA

BTW, I just bought a Trek frame from one of our member S/N 005811, all R-531, Grey metallic finish, Campy B/B and N/R steel headset. 1981 model?? But I realized drop ends are made by SHIMANO, not Campy. Previous owner said all Campy N/R set but he did not tell me what kind of wheel it had, do you know what wheels are for original equipment??

Thanks,
