> For "oddball" French bikes, I'd love > to find a Lejeune... First, if any of you in the D.C. area were out riding this morning and encountered a guy wearing a LeJeune jersey... that was me. Second, I don't see LeJeune as an "oddball". It is one of the best known of the smaller French manufacturers. Third, I can tell you for sure that by the early '80s _all_ LeJeune frames (from the lowest to the highest quality) were built by contract builders. The frames were painted at the facility in Maisons-Laffitte (near Paris) and the bikes were assembled there, though. My brief conversations with Marcel LeJeune lead me to believe that this was already his normal mode of business for several years - perhaps for as long as the company was in existence (which really wasn't that long). Please do not take this as an absolute, 100% certainty, though - my French isn't that good. By the way, I've got some photos of Monsieur LeJeune posing with me, my wife and our LeJeune tandem. I'll try to get them scanned soon and perhaps they can be placed at the CR web site. Also, there will be a couple of DJs playing French pop music this evening at the Galaxy Hut club in Arlington, starting at 9:30pm. I hope to be there (but without the LeJeune jersey).
