Back in the day, I never used the actual Sturmey-Archer pushrods. There's a common nail that's about a quarter inch longer and is a very good fit in the axle hole. I think it might be a 6 penny, but can't recall. We'd cut the pointy end off, and grind the head down a bit so it would fit in the cast bellcrank (might not need to do that with the stamped one you've got.) Always believed these worked better than the stock pushrods.
