Subject: [CR]Help! Stuck in a Crankset Pickle!

Hi folks,

I have just got myself into one of those pickles which I am sure have trapped others in the past. This is a case of someone new to the game and lacking all the necessary knowledge. I am at present in possession of three sets of cranks, but only one bike! I have the Dura Ace on the bike (as I mentioned last week) - that set has been on there since I first assembled it in 1981. It has worked extremely well. In a bid to up-grade to all Campy, I picked up a set of older Chorus or Athena cranks on E-bay about a month ago. It is a nice set of 170mm - used but in pretty good condition - with 52-42 rings. However, they were the wrong vintage and definitely not right for the bike (they were bought before I joined the list!!!!!). I have also just picked up a late SR set of cranks without the rings - they are definitely right. I thought that I would be clever and salvage something from the later crankset and take the chain-rings off it and put them on the SR. Problem, although they seem to be close in date, they do not have the same bolt-ring diameter. I seem to have fallen between the cracks of changing Campy standards! I now have to pick up some SR rings and a new bill! Moreover, I am stuck with the other cranksets that I don't need!

I must admit as the costs go up I am wishing that I had left well enough alone! Oh well, c'est la vie! Learning as I go!
