If you're thinking about Shimano EX headsets the not so secret "secret" is that they are a standard 32mm width. Most people believe that you have to have the "special Shimano tools" to work with these. This is the reason I've never paid more than $15 for one of the Dura-Ace ones NOS. If you're thinking about the Mavic ones, well tyou do need the special tools. This is why I have two sets of tools for the three Mavic headsets I own.
