While visiting friends in New York this past weekend had the opportunity to visit Conrad's, a great bike shop in the Turtle Bay area right near the UN. I knew Conrad's was cool because there was a very nice late 60's Cinelli in the window (equipped with flat handlebar, what's up with that?) and an early 70s Gios with all the right stuff. Inside, a small, well equipped shop with friendly staff, and, best of all, the way you can tell a REALLY great shop...

Later that evening, when Bob Munn and I went out to play chicken with the cabs on 5th avenue and ride a circuit of Central Park in the dark, we went over to Conrads and found an air hose extending out thru a hole in the back door, with 100 psi available after hours! Bob let me ride his mint Raliegh Sports 3 speed with NOS headlamp and Brooks saddle, tobacco brown, too cool!

Anyway, Conrad's is worth a visit if you find yourself in NYC.
