I'm surprised nobody connected the dots. Witcomb spawned several great framebuilders, notably Peter Weigle. Weigle also known as the rust preventing spray goop guy. A coincidence? Perhaps his long term business plan included planting a few rust seeds? It's all very clear now. I hope it's clear that I'm kidding, I just couldn't resist. I can't imagine any framebuilder dumb enough to think sticking anything absorbent in a tube to prevent gunk from getting to bearing surfaces is a good idea. Oh well, frame repairs might help keep your local framebuilder in business.
