Kurt's note: "How much could a mostly bare frame possibly be worth? Do the math."

My recent experience selling frames (w/ BB/HS in some cases) has been that the buyer is more willing to pay proportionally more for the frame alone than for the bike complete because he or she often has the needed components to build it up. The thinking is: "Well, I'll pay $300 for the frame rather than $500 for the whole bike and save $200," even though the components might be worth $500 individually.

I recently sold a DeRosa frame for $425 after getting NO interest on eBay for the whole bike at a $500 starting price.

What is a nice vintage bike worth after it has been stripped of most of its original parts? What would it be worth if the original parts were left on? How much would it cost and how much trouble would it be to find correct parts to restore it to a semblance of its former self? I don't know a lot about Paramounts, but I've seen lots for sale WITH the original parts for $500-800. How much could a mostly bare frame possibly be worth? Do the math. Am I way off base here?
