I was rather surprised at how many on the list held Suntour in such high esteem. Not that I can claim any real opinion based on one sample. But review magazines described their deraillers derisively "kerplunk"- a positive reliable feel, but not smooth. I did like the Suntour ratchet levers though. >> Mark, I ride the Suntour ARX/ratcheting Powerlever combo on my early 80s Bridgestone commuter and the shifting is predictably crisp and precise. I have found it is much quieter with the B screw tightened a bit so the cage runs away from the cogs a bit. Also, as you know, chain noise can result from a bent hanger or cage...the ARX only has one cage plate extending down to the lower pulley, I guess for easy chain threading/installation? Still, it was a great wide range, inexpensive derailleur combo, IMHO.
