Carlo Carr says: I'm in need of a non-drive side crank arm for a Campagnolo Nuovo Record crankset in a 170 cm length. My right (drive side) has the # 4 in a circle --

which I think indicates 1974 manufacture. Numbers don't need to match as long

as its got the same fluted design. Condition unimportant as long as it functions.

Carlo, Many, many here could give this info, but non have on list thus far, so here goes. The Campy arms with numbers in a circle are from the 1980s. Those with numbers in a diamond represent the 1970s. It is here however, that I question the more learned about non-drive side compatibility. Did the shoulder on the inside of the left arm change with the right arm to accommodate the changes due to the CPC mandating? If so, then does that mean that an arm from 74 (or any arm up till 78 or 79) would not be compatible with the bottom bracket that held a left side 1984 arm? In addition, I have a friend who also needed just the non-drive arm to replace his pedal stripped mid 1970s. I picked up a set for him that precedes the date coding. Will this earlier arm work on a mid 70s bottom bracket? I generally stand mute and stare in wonderment at the arcane information that I see so easily passed about here on this list, and I always hope that I might have something to say. I hope that this one wasn't too easy...
