Your written description ( not your neo-impressionist rendering) certainly reads like what you have there is a genuine tire saver, as I have come to know them over the last 30 years. I have never seen one that was not mounted under the brake calipers or that didn't have the clear tubing you mention. But I have never seen the black wire sort, the wire I've witnessed was always silver or chrome in appearance. Sorry, I can't help with identifying the seat post. Tom James, Chicago

> Hello all, > A) I have tire savers on what I believe to be a > late 1970s Torpado. They > look kinda like black 14 or 16G electrical wire, but > seemingly professionally > bent, covered on the sides with a clear tubing like > fish tank air line. The > tubing is about 1/4" o.d., but is kinda > thick...enough to fit snugly on the > two sides of the wire. It looks like the intent is > to have the curved front > edge of the wire scrape the tread of the tire, and > the tubes on the sides to > hit the sidewalls. This one is also mounted under > the brake caliper. > B) The aforementioned Torpado has a single bolt > style seat post that I > cannot identify. It has what appear to be lower > case initials on the back > side, with a 26.8 size marking on the drive side, > and BREV. on the front > side...all at the top of the shaft. I will now > attempt to duplicate the > initials, in the classic style of Seurat, the > painter: * > * * > * * > * > * > * * * > * > * > * * *

If any of you > know this post, please let me know of it's maker, or > anything else relevant > about it.
