Subject: [CR]Daccarddi sighting - Daccordi

At the Trexler Town swap meet last year, there were a couple of guys from the Peddler bike shops in NJ with a whole truck load of new-in-box Daccordis they were offering at serious blow-out prices ($150-$250, I believe). These were all lugged steel, mostly Columbus SLX frames, if I remember correctly. There were even some 50th anniversary models that were pretty nice looking, with special 50th details, markings and paint. Most of the frames were either small (51-52cm) or large (61-63cm), which is the only reason why I didn't buy one. I talked with one of the owners (who I believe died shortly after the swap, but that's another story), and the story was that they cut some sort of deal with Daccordi and bought a "lot" of mid-to-late 80's or early 90's frames. They intended to sell them through the shops at "normal" prices, but got caught in the high-end road bike market slump in the 90's. After sitting on them for some time, they decided to just try and get rid of them in one fell swoop. They did sell most of them, but not all. I checked with them after the swap to see if they had any mid-sized frames, but they didn't. They did, however, still have some left over, and still may have some left yet.

The Peddler web site is http://www.thepeddler.com (but there's not much there) and the shop numbers in NJ are 732-229-6623 (Long Branch) and 732-219-6666 (Red Bank).

On a stranger Daccordi note, about three weeks ago, I was told of another Daccordi sitting at a local pawn shop. When I checked it out, I learned that it was a bike I had built for a friend many years ago. That friend died just a few months ago. It's a 54 or 55 cm, Columbus SL, but the tubing is kind-of aero shaped. Mostly Super Record. Metallic red with yellow decals. Well used, but perfectly functional and was being offered for $350. The Pawn shop is in the Baileys Crossroads area of Falls Church.
