Hello Tom, Lou, and Brandon "monkeyman" Ives -

I visited Chris's shop in Santa Barbara in about 79 when I lived there. The address was a small storefront. Very clean, carefully finished frames. Well respected in the local biking community, although at that time I believe he had not been at it long. The one on Ebay is much fancier than any I saw at the time. I also did not notice any fillet-brazed frames, only lugged, but maybe I wasn't looking that carefully.

cheers,

A slightly related story - My wife and I helped with the weekly Sunday Fun Run at the UCSB lagoon. A woman showed up one week, 35 years old, 5 feet tall, about 180 lbs, in full sweats to hide her body. The pinnacle of her athletic achievements to that time has consisted of walking up a flight of stairs. Her parents believed any athletic endeavor by a woman was unacceptable. She walked most of the run that first day. She stuck with the running and slimmed down. A little over a year later she had learned to swim, (helped by Olympic medalists at the beach pool), bought a pink Chris Pauley bike, learned to ride it, and completed the Hawaiian Iron Man Triathlon. That bike was her prized possession. She was still doing the Iron Man annually when we left Santa Barbara in 84.

If this is too recent a bike to be an appropriate discussion topic, perhaps any generous soul could reply to me off list. http://ebay.com/<blah> A million thanks, Tom Sanders Lansing, Mi
