I checked to try and find my early 80s issues of Velo News. They are long gone, along with my Bicycling magazines from that time.

The article I rememeber reading about Jocelyn Lovell's accident, which I believe to have been in Velo News, sure sticks in my memory because of the horrific nature of it. What I remember reading, was that he was warming up for race on a city street near a velodrome and got cut off by a dump truck. Lovell was described as a bit of hothead, as was the truck driver, with Lovell ending up run under the truck. Though paralyzed, his survival was attributed to his excellent physical condition.

In times before we had the expression "road rage," this reinforced my long standing belief in not antagonizing folks. Just observe and react, to ride another day.

There were also some pictures from time of riders on Lovell track bikes, which I remember had hearts for the "o" in the name?
