"The cracks that often appear at the juncture between spider and arm on Campy Record, NR and SR cranks can be filed out using a round file, for example, a chainsaw file. Before you do this, make sure you protect the front of the two spider arms adjacent to the pedal arm with masking tape."

I did this to my SR cranks as a failsafe-even though I was advised that (looking at the pic) they were probably used very little..and I am by no means a gear masher. One guy on the net drew arrows on a pic of my crank to illustrate where to file.He said "Do this and they will last forever" But I had the LBS do it and they used a dremmel.Seems that a lot of people take this precauction;a lot of stores are familiar with it. But lately we read about other places on the crank that are prone to failure. I guess to be sure the best bet is to buy a spare now.

BTW I had a pair of aftermarket crank dustcaps that would loosen as I rode. Got the real thing and that ended the problem (looked right too)
