Re Bill Philbrook, Griff ,you should have mentioned that Bill worked at
Gillotts through the golden years - late 40's to late 50's. Harry rated him
very highly as a builder. I think Bill was always planning to have his own
shop though, because Harry says he was often to be found making tools which
would disappear home in his bag. This did not please Harry one bit.
It is a shame that Gillott's great builders didn't "sign" their work
like the men at Claud Butlers. I should imagine that Harry would frown on
such a practice as it may encourage Prima Donnas.
I have seen Griff's superb frame and it was that that got me interested
in Aero frames. This era was IMHO the last clutch of innovations applied to
steel frame technology. I am currently advertising for Aero frames in the
UK. I have been offered a Swinnerton, a Rob Telfer (both late 80's lo pro's)
and an Argos. Dale, is there any chance that this era may be included in the
time span of CR?
Mark Stevens in Autumnal Scotland. Bellissima!
