In about '77 I rode the Mojave by Moonlight Century, consisting of riding the Mojave desert under the full moon, out to some town with a train station, and riding the train back. Eerily beautiful to drift by Joshua trees in that silvery light; I'd heartily recommend it except the train was something like six hours late! Yes I said six hours, whataya think this is, Switzerland? Anyway we were dressed for cycling, not sitting still for hours, and it gets pretty chilly in the high desert at night. Either there was no station waiting room or it was locked at that hour, I forget now, but the upshot was all these cyclists seriously shivering until that train arrived well after sunup. Made me yearn for the good ol' days when you could have the person responsible taken out and shot!
