Fill in the chips in the clear coat with clear model paint from the hobby store.

Rub Semichrome polish or Mother's or Wendol (aluminum polishes) on the part and if the rage turns black the part is not anodized. Anodized parts will have no discoloring on the rage. You have to remove the anodizing to polish a part that is anodized. This is a _big_ job to do!

Your LBS has adhesive clear plastic shapes to keep the paint from being abraded underneath cables. Same as chainstay protectors.

Yes, you need to leave that nasty black original finish on your family heirloom Chip n' wail bicycle or the value will plummet to nothing! ;)
