CR members, esp. francophiles:

Josh Putnam posted the following message to the iBOB list the other day regarding the timing of the sale of his PX-10. He'd like to know an approximate value for the bicycle and would prefer not to part it out or sell it to someone that would do so (because of the potential value of the parts exceeding that of the bike as a whole).

I indicated to Josh that the market wasn't that soft and that Japanese buyers are still paying premium prices for french equipment. I also offered to post the message to CR to get him some additional input. Please feel free to contact Josh at josh@phred.org with any advice or offers.

Subject: [BOB] [OT?] Should I do it now, or wait?

It's been months now that I've been meaning to list my unrestored but almost-rideable 1963 PX-10 on eBay. I've been thinking about it for more than a year, after seeing a similar bike go for some ridiculous price to a Japanese collector while I was unemployed.

But it feels to me like eBay is reflecting the softness of the rest of the economy. Prices on bike stuff are down, which is great for buying but not so great if you're trying to convert excess bike stuff into college accounts for the babies.

So I'd like to ask what other iBOBs think -- is now as good a time as any to go ahead and let it go, or should I keep holding onto it for a while, even though I know I'm not going to have time to restore it for years?

And, if anyone is really interested, email me off-list to let me know what you'd pay for it without the eBay hassle.

The bike is at http://www.phred.org/~josh/bike/px10/PX10.html which was going to be the "before" part of a before-and-after page, but I just don't have time to fix it up.
